recent aquisitions

Yesterday during my blog crawl I saw this post about summer hats.
Tell me you don't want one

Yes, I bought one, "bronze" aka chocolate brown.
Email Camilla asap if you want one (and you know you do).
I know its big but I want one that covers my shoulders
 (and my butt if possible).

I've been looking for some faux floral arrangement to go on our breakfast table..
.but I never could find anything decent until I eyed this on OKL today

They're dried not faux!
I have a similar arrangement that I bought in Paris
a decade ago and it looks like fresh flowers even today!
I was looking for peachy orange ones to pull out the colors from my drapery fabric

SCORE!

blue bedroom

My sister is re-doing her house...she painted her bedroom a pretty blue gray color and is going with an all white bed...I told suggested that she put a colorful throw on the end of the bed like this

via and here
I'm also trying to talk her into covering the palladian window over bed with bamboo shades like above...Mary???? What do you think?

garden planner

Brilliant idea!

I can't wait (to find the time) to try this. Best of all it is one of my favorite four letter words. FREE!

I'm wondering...

if I can hack this

For $190 vs. $1000...I'm thinking I may go for it.

new (to me) cooking blog

A new running peep Tarsy told me about this new cooking website that she's been using.

Skinnytaste

Apparently I really need this because I'm writing this after just walking in the door from taking my kids out to dinner for tacos...what can I say. That's how I usually roll on hump day (Wednesday, that is, for all you people with your minds in the gutter. You know who you are ; )

Tarsy said that she and her husband saw a documentary recently..."Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead." If that doesnt grab your attention then I dont know what will. It worked for Tarsy's husband who decided to start  try juicing his vegetables and fruits following this program. She said he dropped twenty something pounds and that it has become a way of life for him. Things that make you go "hmmmmmm??????"

I've drunk the weirdest teas on earth from my acupuncturist back in Georgia so veggies and fruits might not be so bad as a concoction? But I like LOVE to eat but I really want to clean up our eating act. Thoughts???

Now why didnt I think of that?

This is probably a TMI post but that's just how I roll now that I'm in my 40's. Since last week you can tell there's a change in the air. The humidity is arriving and so our long, hot summer begins which means so does my sweating. All this sweating leads to the "changing of the bra" three times a day (depending on how often I'm outside running around with the boys). I warned you it was TMI time.  I was reading my stack of magazines in carpool line the other day and low and behold lookey here what I found...

what is it? you'll never guess.

Moisture Management Liner - Nude

Its a "Wick 'Em" liner you put under "the girls" around your bra band. Genius!

Here's what the company website says:
"Designed to absorb moisture and prevent skin irritation the Wick’em Bra Liner pulls perspiration away from your skin and into the cotton fill. Not only will it save you from unsightly wet spots, but the liner creates a cushion between you and your bra band for a comfortable fit that prevents skin-to-skin contact."

SOLD!

thankful

Hope you all had a lovely Memorial Day weekend. We spent the morning at the pool with the boys. It was a big day for firsts...one of the twins climbed up the rock wall in the deep end for the first time. The other one decided to jump off the diving board in the deep end for the first time. He was scared. I could tell. But he put on a brave face...lots of kids from their school were there. He stood in line and climb the stairs but then turned around and came back down. He came over to me and said a kid behind him told him that he couldn't wear goggles when jumping in. He handed them to me and went back in line. It was his turn. I could see the fear on his face. Heck I was scared for him. But I just smiled as big as I could. He walked out to the edge. This time I could feel his fear. He looked at the water and when I thought he would just stand there or turn around and go back, he jumped. And I cried. I was so proud. And thankful. That I was there, that when he was frightened and he looked at me, I smiled at him and he knew I believed in him and then he believed in himself and he jumped despite his fear.

Yesterday reminded me to be thankful for the beautiful men and women of the military who have served our country and for their families who support them. My cousin is currently serving in the Army. My aunt sent me an email picture of a tattoo he got of my grandfather's dog tags from WWII. While I'm not a fan of tattoos I get it. Thanks Kevin for your service.

Speaking of being thankful I found a picture of the inspiration for the blessing art work I did for our dining room...

It was based on a picture from Traditional Home (March 2002) that I ripped out and kept for a decade, long before my blog addiction, ha!

What are you thankful for?

Inspired by

My love of blogs started a few years ago when I was online searching for ideas for our master bathroom remodel. I dont even think I knew what "blogspot" meant. One of the earliest blogs I remember reading was my sweet Savannah...I clicked on it because of the "savannah" in the title. I'm pretty sure that's how I found my way to Holly Mathis. You get my drift...I clicked through from one blog to another and pretty soon I had a million blogs saved as favorites.  Is it any wonder that the computer blew up?

I've learned alot from blogs...how to sew curtain panels, make my own pillows, DIY art, heck basically I've redone our whole house because of pictures, ideas, and instructions I've found on blogs. But I've also found blogs that have touched my heart, made me thankful for my wonderfully ordinary life, and helped me to embrace the "drives you so crazy you wonder why you ever had kids then the next second its so awesomely beautiful I'm so glad we had kids thing" they call parenthood.

I have a sidebar with a link to bookmarks I've made of stories that I wanted to remember but I also wanted to share one blog that I've become an email follower of...

I found it while looking for ideas to help a friend of mine who is battling cancer. This lady, Hollye, is in her own battle against breast cancer and what I love is that she is a warrior and while she could sit back and say "whoa is me" instead she chooses to focus on the glimmers of goodness, the silver linings, in things both big and small.  I look forward to my daily email from her that usually contains a beautiful quote that I reflect on during the day. Like this one...

and a recent favorite quote of mine...

Sometimes, like coffee in the morning, you just need a little pick-me-up to put a pep in your step or to make that "glass half empty" change to "glass half full." If we all choose to do that what a wonderful world this would be.

in black and white

Kelly is one of my sweet running peeps. We were running today and got on the subject of the color of clothes we wear...and yes we do talk about things other than shopping.  We recently had family photos done and its obvious I'm into navy blue and apple green...my whole family was dunked in that color combination. Kelly shared that she never wears blue...her closet is full of black and white. Well lucky for her this store has a location in town.

I've never bought anything from White House Black Market. Have you?  I flipped through their catalog recently and flipped down the corner of the page a few times...maybe I should reconsider...

Canvas Espadrille Wedge
Knit Mixed Stripe Tank Maxi
Ruffle-Neck Romper

Diagonal Striped Pencil Skirt
Split-Shoulder Blouson Top
Striped Batwing Top

Sweet deal...included in the catalog was a $20 off of $80 purchase plus free online shipping through June 24 with offer code "17816".

Wish Wash

So on super long runs when my peeps and I run out of stories to tell
or we're just too tired to talk we've resorted to
fessing up to a secret about ourselves that no one knows.
Here's a freebie...I love doing laundry.
I do.
I love to sort, wash, dry, fold, put up.
Something about it satisfies me.
What can I say?
I have OCD.

Our current laundry room is yellow.

I hate it.
I'm thinking of painting the cabinets like this green albeit more appley green...

and wallpapering one wall like this

with this

here's a different colorway of the chiang mai print used in a bathroom...you get the idea.

I considered getting an overhead projector to do it myself
but I stumbled upon a company that can turn any image into a wallpaper
(and yes they do make wallpaper of this but its like 300 bucks a roll
and I only need a little since I'm only doing one wall.
Its either that or maybe somebody has leftovers on ebay?
Hmmm....

How bad could it hurt?

To wear these pretties? And they're in my favorite color combination...apple green and navy. Kismet?

via

I've been watching these online from full price at $325 to its current sales price of $162. And they have my size in stock (although she doesnt make "wide" shoes...I figure I could get away with 1/2 size larger and get the 8.5.) Am I crazy? Considering I only usually wear $2 Old Navy flip flops or running shoes?

DH is always telling me to spend the money and get good shoes so that my feet won't hurt. These might be "good shoes" in the sense of its maker but seriously. Who am I kidding? These are going to hurt. Right?

Winging It

My sister is contemplating reupholstering an old wingback chair...herewith are examples of my suggestion to her...go for a bold geometric on the back...live on the edge Mae...come on.

Who knew?

That L.L. Bean had an upscale line called LL Bean Signature? Just like Lands End did with their "Canvas" line LL Bean is looking to capture a younger audience like the Banana Republic and J Crew brands. They've definitely caught my eye with pretties like these...

Strappy Maxi Dress
                                                                         stripy maxi dress

Poplin Dress, Stripe
striped poplin dress

Eyelet Dress

eyelet dress
Tie-Strap Tank
t-strap tank
Cotton Modal Boatneck, Stripe
boat neck t
and with free shipping to boot what's not to love?

Christmas is coming

and I'm thinking of getting at least one of these for the boys...

Its Scrabble meets Rubik's Cube (remember when Rubik's Cube was THE toy to have...I know, I just dated myself again)

If you have little boys you'll know they love dirt and bugs but who knew they made a playground for bugs? Zb and I catch creepy crawlies all the time...this would have come in handy for the rolly pollie we found on a bike ride last week...we didnt have any thing to put it in and it kind of got squished. Not pretty... Bug Playground
Besides bugs all my boys love to build things...blocks, legos, tinker toys, you name it, they build it. I'd never heard of tikestix but I see these in my future

the skin I'm in...

is not what it once was. Was it Chicken Little who screamed "The sky is falling!"? Well for me its my skin that's falling.  Note to my sisters who havent hit 40. Your day is coming so remember the Waffle House slogan "smother and cover" when it comes to retinol products, sunblock, and moisturizers because once you hit middle age, well, I don't want to scare you with what's to come so just trust me and start taking care of your skin NOW.

I've always considered myself a beauty product junkie. Open any drawer or cabinet in my bathroom and you might hear someone yell "Run for cover" because you're bound to get hit with a box or potion. One thing I bought last year and that I'm addicted to is the Clarisonic Plus

Clarisonic - Clarisonic® Plus Skin Care System & Spot Therapy Kit
With the Plus you can scrub your face then switch brushes to do your body (an absolute must if you use self tanner). You can always find a coupon code if you google it...skinstore.com usually always has a 20% off code. Discount or not its worth the investment.  Just saying.

Another gadget I'm considering is the NuFace...it claims to stimulate elastin and collagen production ie lift what's falling and sagging or losing firmness.

Wonder if you could use this on your thighs? Things that make you go "Hmmm?"  **NOTE: Ha! Just read a review that said the girl saw such great results on her face that she's going to start using this on her body especially her thighs! SOLD!

Now I'm a die hard afficianado of Ole Henriksen...like his Truth Serum chock full of vitamin C

A220079
and Sheer Transformation is the bomb too! I LOVE his stuff but I also try new things...these are on my "GET" list
 A221548

vitamin C ester kit

Also by Dr. Nicholas Perricone is this new line based on super foods and nutrients...

When Courtney Cox became the face of the Kinerase line you heard about their products all the time. Not sure what happened but you dont see it like you used to. I tried one of their products and liked it alot...just didnt like the price tag but then I saw that Kinerase came out with a more affordable line available at Walmart and Walgreens...interesting...and when I did more research I found the product I liked alot...

Under Eye Recovery

While I'm at Walgreens I'd like to try this too...says its a moisturizing day cream that firms and contains SPF.
Olay Age Defying 2-in-1 Anti-Wrinkle Day Cream + Serum
So besides your skin and body parts (like your boobs and your bum) falling down you'll also start to lose hair or at least it wont grow as fast as it did when you were younger. For instance I've noticed the hair on my eyebrows is sparser so much so that I use an eyebrow pencil. I use one now by Smashbox that's ok but I've heard rave reviews about this one by Dalton and I'll be getting this when the other one is done.

A214925

I'd also love to try this aluminum free deodorant by Weleda to see if it works (do your shirts become stained at the armpit because of your deodorant? or is it just me? and if it does that to my shirt what's it doing to my body?)

Weleda Citrus Deodorant - 3.4 oz..Opens in a new window

One thing I have tried and LOVE is by Bobbi Brown...you can use it on your lips and cheeks and it stays on all day (at least on your cheeks...I've never found a lip color that stays on all day...maybe I should go back in the lab and invent one?!)

Pot Rouge for Lips & Cheeks
Sign up on Bobbi's website and they send coupon codes for free shipping and deluxe samples.

Hope I didnt scare you about getting older...its better than the alternative.
