magic of ordinary days

Yesterday it registered 104 on the thermometer outside.
To say its hot outside would be an understatement.
So we've been staying inside in the a/c or outside in the pool.
Yes, thankfully we have a pool in the back yard...

You can have one too for $35 from Target :)
But be forewarned:
It took longer for me to figure out how to inflate it
than they ended up playing in it.

Staying inside during the extreme heat of the day
the boys have gotten their pilates on with me...

pretty good huh?
That's Zb doing the "star"
{a very advanced move I might add}.

We try to run a bunch of errands early in the morning.
Some fun and others mundane so we've taken to trading off...
we go places they like as in Toys R Us to pick out a little Lego kit...
then we go places I need to go like the grocery and Target
and maybe even to look for things like purses and jewelry.
By the way...

If you want a J Crew necklace knock off
and you live in Houston try Sam Moon...
I'd never heard of it before I saw it in my rear view mirror
as I was ordering some tacos at my favorite taqueria El Rey...

they were marked as $8.99 with matching earrings...

Tell me that they don't look like J Crew's version...

J.Crew - Bubble necklace
J Crew Bubble Necklace $150

Total SCORE!

On the "next big project" front...
all the items have arrived for the kitchen reno
and are now taking over waiting in the dining room.

Plus I put four slabs of Caesarstone's London Gray on hold...

I took various shots to get a perfect shot of the veining...

We walked the whole slab yard and my husband agreed
that it looks most like marble.

Here's a pic of carrara marble...

My husband is so funny...he goes...
"um, I know you've done your research, and I know we're starting in a week, BUT
if we like the look of marble so much
then why are we not using it?"
Hello?
Have you not been paying attention?
Where have you been?
Marble is BEAUTIFUL
BUT it etches and stains easily
and we have three boys.
Need I say more?
If I had a nickel for every time
one of them does something
or throws something
and I think to myself
"Now THAT is going to leave a mark"
I would be a very rich woman indeed.

And just in case you aren't near a stone yard that carries the London Gray...
they have a new brochure with large "chips"
so you can see
what it might look like in your project
I took a picture of the brochure page of London Gray
right next to the sample of it...

spot on if you ask me.

 Demo starts Monday :)

Will post pictures as the mess begins.

Beyond excited!!!!

cute dress alert

My peep Laura found the cutest dress today
hanging on the sales rack at Loft.
During checkout however it rang up as full price.
Luckily she asked about it and was told the discount only applied to certain styles.
So she asked if they could show her which ones were on sale.
Turns out none of the dresses on the "sales" rack was on sale.
Hmmmm?
Long story short...they honored the discount.
Like my brother-in-law {and former Marine} Mike always says...
"the bashful go hungry."
It always pays to ask!

Love the shape and the eyelet fabric -
its much better looking in person
plus the back is fab...

You can barely see it but there is a ribbon attached to the zipper...
how helpful will that be for an old broad like me
to zip myself in and out
because

{I hope Laura doesn't mind}

I am so getting this dress

{once it goes on sale that is}.

if you like...

 this John Robshaw fabric...

then you might love this bedding from west elm...

Hand-Blocked Medallion Quilt + Shams #westelm
and you might want to hurry...
west elm is having a sale on their bedding right now.

blogger tutorial - free gallery wall template

If you have ever put a hundred nail holes in your wall
trying to create the perfect gallery wall
then you'll think that this is beyond cool...

Click through to her website to download a copy.
Then you just print it, cut the frames out and play around
until you find a grouping you like.
Imagine how many nail holes I won't have to put in the wall now.
This will save me a ton of money in spackle and paint for touch-ups.

thoughts for the day...

I have my "final" exam this weekend
to officially earn my certification to teach mat pilates
{reformer and other equipment will take another year or so}
and yes I am nervous...

but trying to remember to "lean into my discomfort"
My girlfriends have been wonderful
 in letting me teach them.
They have been instrumental in helping me not be so anxious
about speaking in public...not my favorite thing to do.

I may not be there yet, but I'm closer than I was yesterday.
and that's the truth.
I can honestly say that I am 1000 times better than a month ago
when I first tried teaching someone else.
Progress.
I'll take it.
I'm going to try my best now to let go and let God.

and I may mess up but I'm gonna roll with it anyway

Sometimes we do get it wrong. But that's okay, it's the only way to figure out how to get it right.
Wish me luck!

too much?

Sloan Chair, Blue Lagoon, Chevron

After we finish the kitchen
we're going to do a little re-do
on our living room area.
Out with the orange and hip chocolate florals
and in with navy blues and apple greens...
but I ask you:

Is this chair too much?
As in chevron?
And I'd probably need two of them.
Thoughts?

the dating world

About a year ago my husband started taking our kids' birthdays off from work.
We usually spend their big days running around frantically
trying to get cakes and presents etc...
My youngest turned five in May.
On Zb's birthday this year we started the day off at the boys' school.
One of the twins received a math award
that we didn't even know about
until we read the school newspaper.
Am I the only parent who can't get information out of their kid?
As we made our way to the awards ceremony in the school cafeteria
we ran into the beautiful person that helped us have our family...
a sweet friend who delivered all our babies.

I love it when the universe works in its mysterious ways don't you?
To run into her on his birthday of all days.

So after we dropped Zb off at preschool,
we got some last minute things done
then realized we had two hours before we had to pick anybody up.
We decided to grab some lunch and then managed to go see
We rarely get time by ourselves
just the two of us
so to squeeze a little date into the middle of the day was
in a word...
priceless.

That was the last date I've been on in months.
Until last week.
Our older guys were enrolled in a summer camp for the week
so it was me and just my big little guy hanging out together.
One morning as we dropped them off I asked Zb what he wanted to do with our day.
"Mama. Do you wanna have a date with me?"
He's an old man in a little person's body.
As a matter of fact I do I told him.
So we went to the science museum and I followed him around.
Take a look...

we went to the butterfly museum...

and he kept pointing things out
then telling me to take a picture of him
as he was pointing to things...

a mental note to see if I can find this flower...

the butterflies were AMAZING...

can't really see it clearly but this is an iguana...

they also have some great hands-on exhibits for the kids...
of course I saw this and wanted to take it home and frame it...

After the butterflies I sweet talked him into going to the Faberge exhibit...

what's this you might be thinking?

who knew he made things like this right?

Sorry for the horrible phone pics...
I tried to get a close-up of the delicate details on the edge of the fan...

If you're in Houston or close by I highly recommend seeing this exhibit.
I only wish my date would have lasted a bit longer...
it was more like a speed date through Faberge
but at least I got to see them in person...
how many people can say that?

Walking to the car
I tried to get Zb to pose by the statue of Sam Houston...

As you can see that was a no-go.
He was mad that we had to leave to go get his brothers.
I think we'll go on another date next week.
How about you?
Any fun dates lately?
